As a fund-raising project and a display of patriotism, the Southport Lions display American Flags throughout the main streets of Southport on at least seven Holidays, including 9/11, Patriots Day. We also display the flags on special occasions such as visits from the Wounded Warriors. Over 120 flags are sponsored by private businesses and Lions club members who sponsor various sites.

The cost to sponsor a site is $25 per year and there is a one-time fee of $5.00 for new sponsors. This project netted the club over $2800 this year, all of which is used to support local charitable causes and vision support. The white arrows on the curbs of Howe and Moore St. indicate where the flag is to be displayed. We have been doing this project for a number of years and take pride in being able to contribute to a sense of patriotic community spirit.
