A Collection of Special Christmas Ornaments which began in 2002, features each year a different historic point of interest in the City of Southport, NC. The ornaments are solid pewter and are produced by the Woodburry Pewter Company in Woodbury Connecticut. the centerpiece of each ornament is from the original sketches done by the late Donald (Don) K. Johnson, a local artist, in preparation for the printing of the Southport Self-Guided Walking Tour, available for visitors and residents alike at the Southport Visitor Center.
The ornaments cost $10 each (+$1.00 for S&H if mailed) and are available year-round at the Southport Visitor Center (see details below). Ornaments from all years are currently available. All proceeds from the sale of these ornaments benefit community projects supported by the Southport Lions Foundation, Inc., a 501c3 tax-exempt organization (EIN: 01-0790839). 65% of the cost of these ornaments is tax deductible
The
2011 “Christmas in Southport” Ornament
The Southport Lions Club/Foundation is introducing the Walker-Pyke house as
the 2011 addition to the “Christmas in Southport” ornament collection which
began in 2002. This is the 10th
ornament in the collection of various historic places of interest which are
featured in the “Self-Guided Walking Tour” brochure designed by the late
Donald K. Johnson for the Southport Historical Society.
This brochure is given out to visitors who want to learn more about
the history of this town.
The Walker-Pyke house is probably the oldest surviving house in Southport,
built between 1800 and 1820 and is located at the corner of E. Bay Street
and Atlantic Avenue. The house
features a clipped gable roof with 3 dormers, and porches on both the first
and second floors. More details
on the house may be found in the insert that comes with each ornament.
The ornaments are solid pewter and manufactured by the Woodbury Pewter
Company in Woodbury, CT. They
are currently on sale at the Southport Visitor Center and the selling price
remains at $10.00 each. There are also a limited number of ornaments
available from all previous years at the same $10.00 price.
