2008 Boat Winner
2008 Boat Winner
Bill Sue of Leland, along with wife Bidgie and their great-grandson Taylor Johnson, sit in their 2008 Bayliner 195 boat that Sue won in the Southport Lions Club boat raffle on July 4. The chairman of the Brunswick County Board of Commissioners purchased $50 worth of tickets from a Lions Club member while at the pancake breakfast hosted by Trinity United Methodist Church prior to the festival parade. Presenting Sue with his new boat from Southport Marine Mart of Long Beach Road are, from left, Larry Price of Southport Marine Mart; Terry Pope, chairman of the 2008 Lions Club boat project; and Jack Kemeny, past president of the Lions Club. The total boat, motor and trailer package retails for around $21,000. The boat raffle is the major fundraiser for the Lions Club each year with all proceeds donated to charitable organizations and people in need in Brunswick County. This year?s raffle raised over $17,000 for club projects.

Boys and Girls Home Gets Luggage!!
Lions Offer Delivered More than 222 Pieces of luggage in their 2008 Luggage Drive to Support the Boys and Girls Home of Lake Waccamaw Southport Lions Club members Richard Stitcher and Robert Schwartz collected from many sources, stored, and then delivered and donated over 222 pieces of luggage, roll aboards, duffels, backpacks, garment bags, etc. to the children who live and are cared for by the Boys and Girls Home of Lake Waccamaw. The 70 plus children who are residents at the B&G Home and the 100 plus more that are in a foster care program managed by the Home get to pick their own luggage so that when they travel or have home visits, go on trips, graduate from the Home they can properly transport their ?stuff?. In most cases the children come to the Home with their possessions in a plastic bag and this is their first opportunity to have their own luggage.

Lions Offer Thanks to Sheltered Treasures Manager Kay Hogue For 2008 Luggage Drive Support Kay Hogue Manager of Sheltered Treasures Thrift Store received a Certificate of Thanks from the Southport Lions Club member Richard Stitcher in August. Sheltered Treasures collected and donated to the Annual Lions Club luggage Drive fo9r the Boys and Girls Home more than 60 pieces of luggage, roll aboards, duffels, backpacks, garment bags, etc. The 70 plus children who are residents at the B&G Home and the 100 plus more that are in a foster care program managed by the Home get to pick their own luggage so that when they travel or have home visits they can properly transport their ?stuff?. Lions Offer Thanks to Sentry Storage Manager For 2008 Luggage Drive Support Anni Mathiesen Seitz ? Manager of Sentry Storage of Southport and Svend Mathiesen Assistant Manager (not in photo) received a Certificate of Thanks from the Southport Lions Club member Richard Stitcher in early July. Sentry Storage donated the use of a large, covered trailer that was used to transport more than 222 pieces of luggage, roll aboards, duffels, backpacks, garment bags, etc. that were collected in the annual Lions Club project for the Boys and Girls Home of Lake Waccamaw. Thanks to the Community for the Strong level of support given to the Southport Lions Club this year in their twentieth Annual 4th of July Boat Raffel Givaway. At 9PM in Waterfront Park a lucky ticket was drawn from over the 25,000 tickets sold and a 7 year old girl, Miss Cagney Hodge of Southport was the WINNER!!!!. Her Dad John Hodges in accepting for the family, said they were thrilled at their good fortune and were very pleased at the outcome. On 7/7/07 the keys to the Boat was trnsferred to the Hodge Family at Marine Mart of Southport (the dealer) amongst much celebration! Congratulations to this lucky Southport family!!!! Surfers Restaurant Gets a BIG Thank You!!
Colleen and Lewis Weathers the owner/operators of Surfer's Restaurant located next to the WalMart Shopping Center were a huge help to the Southport Lions Club during their 2008 Boat Raffel Giveaway. The Weathers graciously offered the Lions the opportunity to both sell raffel tickets at the Restaurant and to leave a Boat with signage parked near their front door to help advertise the event. Over $2,000 worth of Raffel Tickets were sold at Surfers. Thank You Colleen and Lewis!!!!

Nov 2008 Donation 4th of July Committee

The Southport Lions Club President Ron Jones presdnted a check of almost $2,000 to Ben Styles the outgoing Chairman of the Southport North Carolina 4th of July Committe which comes under the auspices of the Southport/Oak Island Chamber of Commerce. Styles under his remarks upon accepting the Donation was quick to tell Club members that the incoming Chairman of the Committee is also a member of the Southport lions Club - Lion Don Parker a retired Army Brig. General who was a past Commander of the MOTSU Terminal at Sunny Point in the early 1990's.
